Dr. Nelson teaches courses in Silviculture (FOR 424 - Fall semesters) and Forest Regeneration (FOR 324 - Spring semesters) at the University of Idaho. These courses intergrate biological and ecological forest patterns and processes with hand-on learning experiences. Undergraduate courses introduce students to the concepts of regeneration ecology, forest stand dynamics, tree and stand growth in relation to density, age, and site quality. Silvicultural concepts covered include techniques for managing establishment, composition, density, quality and health, and reproduction.
Graduate courses taught in the future include Forest Stand Dynamics, Advanced Silviculture, and Intensive Silviculture.
